I received a rather alarming call from individuals claiming to be from HMRC, insisting that I had an outstanding debt of £1,000 and that I was facing arrest if I failed to settle it immediately. Naturally, I sought confirmation from my workplace, and they reassured me that they were managing all my tax affairs as expected. It was quite distressing, to say the least! When I mentioned that I would reach out to my employer for verification, the line mysteriously cut out. After getting in touch with them, my suspicions were confirmed-they indicated it was likely a scam.
