I came across a notice on a government website saying that if HMRC rang you, they’d provide a reference number. What I got was a really official sounding automated message threatening arrest if I didn’t press 1 because supposedly I was under investigation for unpaid tax. It was honestly scary. I’ve been through a lot health-wise - suffered 5 strokes, mainly tiny ones triggered by APS, plus stage 3 kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and small vessel vascular disease. One stroke even broke my blood pressure monitor, so it won’t register properly when I move from sitting to standing. My liver’s not great either, fluctuating, and now they think I may have a bleeding stomach ulcer. On top of that, I’m on Warfarin, which makes even small bumps cause serious bruising. Getting a scam call like that is just awful, especially with everything going on. Please, tell your friends and family to be on the lookout for these kinds of calls.
