Received a call just before 9 this morning from an automated voice claiming there was some sort of ‘tax fraud issue’ linked to me. It told me to press 1 or else I’d be facing an arrest warrant soon. Didn’t press anything, but I was quite shaken for a bit, almost thinking it might be real and if they’d mixed me up with another person or something. Ridiculous stuff. What made me suspicious about this caller was the rubbish quality of their line, plus when I picked up there was an automated voice (not sure legit companies do that). Also, I could hear loads of noisy calls happening in the background. Then when I told them the line was poor, it just dropped suddenly! They haven’t tried ringing me back either, which I reckon any genuine firm would have done by now.
