Beware of people pretending to be from HMRC, they are scammers! Don’t hand over any personal info to them, they aren’t real.

I keep getting calls from HMRC too, and it's so obvious these are the same scammers who ring folks in the US pretending to be the IRS. Since I spend quite a bit of time in America, I'm pretty used to their tactics, so I just mess about and waste their time whenever they call. They use exactly the same scripts they do over there, with all their American phrases like courthouse, local authority, state ID, badge number and the like. Don't let them scare you at all - these are just professional con artists trying to trick you.
