Got a message that sounded like it was from HMRC, saying I owed taxes and if I didn’t press 1 to talk to them, I’d be jailed! Total nonsense. Don’t pick up if you get this call - it’s just a scam. Really hope no one gullible falls for this automated rubbish.

This number called my elderly mum saying she owed money and needed to pay up, so she phoned back and unfortunately gave them her bank info. Now she’s really worried she’s been conned. She’s been down to the bank to see if they can stop any dodgy transactions but she’s quite shaken up about it all. Sounds like an HMRC scam to me!

Got a call from that number too, so I went ahead and told HMRC about it.

Got a call from 0300 200 2426 around 3.41pm yesterday and it was some robot bloke saying I’m wanted for Tax Fraud and there’s a warrant for my arrest, telling me to press ‘1’ right away. After that, I spent nearly three quarters of an hour waiting to talk to someone at HMRC. When I finally got through to an inspector, I told them the number, and they said to just ignore any more calls from similar 0300 200 numbers because they’re cracking down on this scam problem. Thought I’d share in case it comforts anyone else!
