I received a rather alarming phone call today from someone claiming to be with HMRC. They correctly stated my name and then launched into a rather dramatic tale of a supposed criminal investigation regarding tax evasion linked to my details, alleging I owe nearly £500 in unpaid taxes. When I asked him to provide something in writing so I could keep a record, he flatly refused. At that point, I thought it was pointless to continue the conversation. The call quality was shockingly bad and there was a thick foreign accent that seemed to obscure his words. It was clear to me that this was a scam! - caller: 03001001089
