I received a call from someone purporting to work for HMRC, who said I was owed a tax rebate. They wanted me to provide them with various personal details to initiate the claim. As soon as they requested my banking information, I realised it was nothing but a fraudulent scheme.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC about income support. Thing is, HMRC doesn’t handle income support and I don’t even receive any benefits. Plus, I’m an accountant who deals with HMRC all the time, so I was sharp enough to spot it was a scam. Loads of self-employed people have recently applied for their 80% grant, so this joker was clearly fishing for my bank info. The scammer’s voice didn’t sound genuine one bit.
