Got a call from some guy from India, pretty much the usual nonsense. Ended up made me cry on the phone, all confused and wondering what exactly I messed up.

Got a voicemail from 01615240357 claiming to be HMRC, saying there’s a legal issue against me and I need to get a solicitor. I called back and a man with an Asian accent told me about some charges and said I owe £1489. Then he put me through to a senior investigator who said it hasn’t gone to court or police yet but they’d be arresting me within two hours. It sounded really believable, but when I looked up the number I found loads of reports of the same scam from callers pretending to be HMRC. Honestly, be super careful, they’re quite good at sounding legit!

Got a call from a woman saying it was from HMRC and that they were gonna send a warrant to arrest me. It was pretty obvious a scam though because they kept using legal terms that sounded totally American. Definitely don't fall for it!

I got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC. They scared me by saying there was a warrant out for my arrest unless I paid £2000 immediately. They managed to take £900 off me before I figured out it was a scam. Just sharing this so people are warned and these kinds of crooks get caught.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC. They tried to scare me by saying there was a warrant out for my arrest unless I paid £2000 straight away. I ended up handing over £900 before I figured out it was a scam. Just putting this out there so folks can be warned and hopefully these scammers get caught.

Someone called saying she was with HMRC, asking my dad to verify info about a furlough payout his accountant supposedly handled. She didn’t seem to have any actual HMRC info on my dad though, and when she couldn’t answer questions properly, she started getting rude. My dad just ended the call. Weirdly, when the accountant phoned that same number afterwards, the same woman answered!

My dad got a call from a woman saying she was from HMRC, number 03000 526807. She wanted him to verify some info about a furlough payment that his accountant had supposedly handled. But when she couldn’t answer questions about my dad's actual details that HMRC would have, she got quite rude. Dad ended the call, then the accountant called that same number and spoke to the exact same woman! Pretty suspicious if you ask me.

Got a voicemail from someone saying I had to get in touch urgently because I supposedly owed money to HMRC and would face prosecution the next day. I rang them back and kept asking if it was real, as I always thought HMRC wouldn’t phone like that. The bloke even mentioned my old address from about seven years ago, which puzzled me since I’ve had letters from them at my current place since then. Plus, my parents still live at the old address, so I’m baffled why no recent letters have turned up there if anything had been sent. Still, the caller sounded really believable!

This number rang me up claiming I had a massive tax debt unpaid and if I didn’t pay up they’d lock me up. Sounded like a total scam, sounded dodgy from the start.

I got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying I owed nearly £3900 in taxes I hadn’t paid. They mentioned they sent letters back in September 2018, but they said those came back to them. When I kept questioning what was going on, the caller got annoyed and just ended the call abruptly!

Absolute muppet from India. Just like loads of other posts here, they claim to be from the tax office, trying to bully you with threats about legal troubles.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC - proper aggressive bloke, kept shouting about reporting me to the cops. Told me to check the number online to prove who he was, but when I asked for more proof, he got even more threatening, saying I’d be nicked straight away and had to go to Tooting police station or else. Then, out of the blue, they ring back pretending to be "Surrey Police," telling me to hand myself in. Felt like a right scam.

Somebody claiming to be from the HMRC National Audit Office called me saying they’d conducted a personal audit on my tax records and found that I owed them a sum of money. They warned that if I didn’t settle it immediately, I could be thrown in jail as soon as the next day for tax evasion and stealing from the government. As a pensioner, it was honestly quite scary. In the end, what choice do you have but to pay up?

I got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC’s national audit team saying they’d checked my tax records and found I owed them a big sum. They warned that if I didn’t pay immediately, I’d be facing jail time the very next day for tax evasion and stealing from the government. As a pensioner, it was really scary to hear that. In the end, I felt I had no choice but to hand over the money.
