Today I got a call from 02976889640 saying my National Insurance number had been stolen and to press 1 to talk to some legal team to sort it out. It was definitely a recorded message. Around here the police and other folks have been warning us that it’s a scam just trying to get your personal details. I hung up after hearing the message but I just wanted to say don’t trust this - HMRC won’t ring you like that. If there’s ever a problem with HMRC, they’ll send you a letter through the post. So be careful and never share your personal info with calls like this.

Received a dodgy phone call claiming to be HMRC, alluding to a breach of my National Insurance number. Whatever you do, don’t engage with the automated voice by pressing any buttons to get in touch with their “legal team.” The number in question is 02976889640. Steer clear!
