Yet another dodgy scam call! The only thing that's really cut down on how many of these I get has been letting out a loud whistle right into the phone. I said hello and then there was this really long pause, like about half a minute, before anything came through. I asked them why they took so long to reply and all they said was “No.” Turned out I was chatting with some kind of robot, and we just kept going in loops until it eventually short-circuited and dropped the call. You should block the number and send a report to 7726, which isn’t a police line. I’d also suggest getting in touch with your MP to ask two things: why can’t we report scam calls directly through the police’s Action Fraud system anymore, and why hasn’t the phone industry rolled out Caller ID Authentication tech to help cut down on these annoying calls? If you get scam texts, forward them to 7726. For scam emails or screenshots of scammy texts, it’s a good idea to email them to the police at '[email protected]' so they can look into it.
