Lately ive been getting loads of calls from numbers saying Cardiff or Coventry. Dont know any of em and I reckon they might be dodgy so I just dont pick up. Never get a voicemail either. Pretty sure its some kind of scam. Starting to get really annoying now. 😡

I had a rather persistent caller trying to entice me with a deal for a SIM card. They seemed overly interested in my current charges, wanting to pry into how much I’m shelling out. When I queried how on earth they got hold of my number-considering I’m on the Telephone Preference List-they promptly shifted the blame onto EE. Honestly, it was like talking to a broken record, as they wouldn’t let up about my SIM arrangement. In the end, I refused to budge on my questions, and they abruptly ended the call. Quite the cheek, really!

Got calls from 029 2271 5064 and 029 2271 0121, both from Cardiff, plus 024 7542 4549 from Coventry over the past three days. Each rang a couple of times then either dropped the call right as I picked up or just before I could answer. The first one showed up as EE on my car’s screen.

If you take a look through the comments on here, you'll see pretty clearly why we keep getting these scam calls. There’s info shared about how to report these fraud attempts straight to the cyber crime police database, why simply blocking numbers isn’t enough, and other useful tips. Loads of people either won’t bother reading through or, even if they do, won’t take any action. This just gives scammers free rein and they laugh all the way to the bank, knowing most of their calls go unreported. Once a scam hits a mark, the scammers simply switch to a new number but use the same trick.

Classic scam tactic here. They ring you then just cut off, hoping you’ll ring them back. Its a way to weed out folks who wont get tricked. Best just to block this number.

Here’s some info on how to use the system set up by the police (NFIB) so everyone can easily report scam calls, texts, emails, and other fraud tries. I found out about this when I raised a complaint with my MP about how many scam calls I kept getting. Scammers defo don’t want people to know about this. If you don’t report these scams, don’t expect them to be stopped anytime soon. Sending reports to 7726, your network provider, Ofcom, or firms the scammers pretend to be might help a bit, but often those details never reach the police for a proper criminal investigation.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Three, saying they had a new iPhone deal with unlimited data for £18 a month. I told them I’m not bothered about iPhones, and then they said they do Samsung too. I mentioned I’ve got a Google Pixel 7, and he quickly switched to offering me a Google Pixel 7 Pro instead... Tried making it seem like they’d sort out an upgrade on my contract, but I’m actually with a different provider. Pretty clear it was a scam.

Got a call claiming to be from Virgin Media, saying I was a loyal customer and qualified for a discount. They then just hung up on me straight away. I didn’t answer when they tried calling again.

I’ve just noticed a missed call from this number earlier today, on the 17th of January 2023. It struck me as a bit dodgy, to be honest.

I received a call from this number, and the gentleman on the other end asserted he was from EE, attempting to present me with a deal. However, upon mentioning that I was registered with the Telephone Preference Service, he became quite dismissive and raised his voice, demanding to know whether I would accept his offer. Quite rude, really!
