Got a call from someone saying he was Allan with Virgin Media, but he had a really thick Asian accent, sounded dodgy right away. We just ended the call straight off. Best to steer clear of this number, even if it’s spoofed, you can tell it’s a scam once they start chatting.

Got a call from this number bright and early at 7 this morning. Thought it might be my nan, who’s 87, so I jumped out of bed quick sharp, nearly made myself feel light-headed! But turns out I didn’t recognise the number at all. When I answered, it went straight to voicemail and no message was left. Got a call from someone saying they were from the Three network, trying to sell me the newest iPhone deal. I mentioned I was locked into a contract, but he claimed I could get an early upgrade without any cost because of some Black Friday offer. That’s when I got suspicious. Then I asked why they were ringing from a Cardiff number when it was supposedly Three calling me. Since I live in Cardiff, it felt fishy right away. Definitely a scam!

Got a call from a guy with an accent, said he was calling from O2. The call quality was awful, definitely sounded like it was coming from somewhere like India or maybe the Middle East, nowhere near the UK. When he claimed it was O2, I asked "O2 in Mumbai?" and he just cut the call right there. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me.

And that was the end of our conversation.

It was obviously a call centre behind that line, cluttered with a cacophony of background chatter, or perhaps someone merely masquerading as one. The quality of the connection was atrocious, suggesting it was an overseas call, and the chap's grasp of English was so poor that he struggled to comprehend my words. He claimed to be representing Carphone Warehouse, so I pointed out that someone truly representing them would know I’m registered with the TPS, the Telephone Preference Service, which could lead to a hefty £5000 penalty for ringing someone on the list. I made it clear I’d be reporting Carphone Warehouse to them. His puzzled reaction affirmed he was certainly not from a legitimate establishment. At least I had the satisfaction of wasting a bit of his time, preventing him from pestering someone else. Today alone, I’ve received six nuisance calls from various numbers-each one sounding strikingly similar, as if the same person were pretending to be from Carphone Warehouse again. It seems he hasn’t quite got the knack for keeping track of who he’s already called, either!
