Then, the following day, I got another call, this time a bloke from HMRC told me to press 1 if I wanted to talk about it. I just ignored it all, but I can see how someone not so savvy might easily freak out!

Hey, I just got a call from some automated voicemail thing, no name was said, telling someone to ring 2922550404 right away and say they're from HMS customs and ask for Lisa. Only gave the 10 digit number, which is a bit fishy. If HMS customs needed to reach me or anyone else, they’d send a letter, not a random call. I've had the same experience with a Lisa robot from "HMRC" ringing me up, trying to scare folks into calling back a seriously pricey number - definitely a scam! Don’t bother, just block or ignore it. It’s really nasty for older or vulnerable people since it warns about "legal consequences" if you don’t ring back right away. Such a rubbish scare tactic! Best just to steer clear and block those calls.

Being older, I was really shook up by this call. Luckily, I missed it initially due to other things going on and as time went by, I calmed down and thought things through properly. There's no way HMRC would suddenly ring and speak in such a harsh way without warning. Since I retired years back, I don’t have to file tax returns anymore. It soon dawned on me it was a scam, so I came on here to check. It’s obvious they’re trying to scare people on purpose.
