They rang again after the first time - I told them nicely to leave me alone once they called me by the wrong name and wanted my info. Just saw another missed call from them now.

Just to add, none of the usual UK authorities like the TPS, ICO, Ofcom, or even government branches in the EU have any real control over these spoofed numbers. Most of these are actually virtual numbers that use VoIP tech - basically voice calls over the internet. You can easily google those terms if you're curious. The thing is, these numbers can't really be traced or pinpointed to where they came from, especially internationally. Because they’re fake, by nature they’re fraudulent and you can’t legitimately buy or sell them anywhere.

Got a call from someone named ‘erry smith’ working out of some Asian call centre. Definitely a scam.

Got a call from someone saying they were from “Today Live” with an Indian accent. They said they found my number in a public database but we're actually ex-directory and signed up to the TPS, so that sounded dodgy right away. When I mentioned the TPS they acted like they didn’t know what it was. Told them to remove my number immediately and then just ended the call. Wish I could track down the business behind it but it seems like a total scam. Really shady and probably against the law.

I noticed the caller spoke with an Indian accent, not the Irish one you'd expect for this number, since 02892 is meant for Lisburn in Northern Ireland. This suggests the number’s probably being faked by scammers, and they could be ringing you from anywhere globally. My tip? Block these calls straight away using whatever tools you have - be it BT Call Protect, Sky Talk Shield, TalkTalk Call Safe, the call-blocking feature on an iPhone, a BT 8600 phone with call blocking, or something similar. Better safe than sorry! :)

Got a call from this number but couldn't answer. The area code showed up as Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Definitely seems like one of those scams. Seriously, the government really needs to step in and ban the selling of phone numbers.

this number rang me twice, but just missed both calls, one day after the other around the same time. not sure who they were tho.

This caller spoke with a very thick Indian accent that was really hard to understand. They started by asking my age group and then wanted to know the brand of my washing machine. Seemed like one of those scams trying to get info to sell bogus appliance insurance or services. I just ended the call straight away.
