Some bloke claimed to be from BT’s tech team and said my home internet IP was blocked. He wanted me to get on my laptop and give him the internet speed. He went on about my connection being on a public network and that I was at risk of hackers stealing info from my online banking or social media accounts. I told him I was busy working and couldn’t do what he asked, but he kept pushing, asking for a time when I’d be free so he could call back and fix the line. I just said I was busy and ended the call, no way was I messing about with that.

I got a call from a bloke with a strong English accent saying he was calling from BT. He claimed my IP address was public and at risk of getting hacked. He wanted to get into my computer to fix it. I asked him for my BT account number and the account holder's name to check if he was legit. He said he didn’t have that info, so I told him to find out while I waited. Without any more fuss, he quickly cut the call.

Got a call on my home phone from a bloke who called himself David, but his accent sounded really strong and Asian. He claimed he was from Sky and wanted to chat about my Internet. Thing is, my broadband company never rings or texts me. I just chuckled and told him goodbye before hanging up. Another dodgy scam, for sure. So someone called saying he was Richard from BT, but I’m pretty sure that’s not his real name and he wasn’t really calling from BT either. He told me my IP address was exposed and unsafe, then asked me to check on Google and said it’s safe to do that. When I asked why I should bother, he just said “why wouldn’t you?” I told him I didn’t buy that his name was Richard or that he was from BT, which seemed to throw him off. In the end, he just hung up. Totally a scam, so watch out!

Got a call from this number again at 11.03 on 4 June 2022, after they’d already called me on 1 June. I answered this time and could hear loads of noise like a call centre in the background, with some bloke saying hello. I ended the call straight away. Honestly, what’s the use of signing up to the Telephone Preference Service if they still keep ringing?

They didn’t leave a voicemail, which is probably a blessing - if I’d been home, I’d have told them off proper. What winds me up is I’m ex-directory, so clearly they’re just guessing numbers. Got a call from someone with an Asian accent pretending to be from Openreach, saying my router was hacked. I tried asking some simple tech questions just to mess with them, but they ended up hanging up on me. Pretty poor try at recycling one of those old scams.

It's just a blatant repeat of the classic online scam we've all seen before. I tried to keep them talking for a laugh, but as soon as I posed a straightforward question, they hung up on me!

Being pretty good with technology, we've had about five calls over the past couple of days supposedly from “Openreach” and “BT”. Every time, we acted like we were switching on a device - could be a laptop, tablet or phone - and asked them what we’re meant to see on the screen. Then we challenged them with questions like “what exactly am I looking for?” Each time they got a bit defensive, asking if we were just messing about, and we fired back with “not much more than you’re wasting our time”. That always seemed to annoy them, and they ended up swearing at us.

We're pretty good with tech and over the past couple days, we've had about five calls supposedly from "Openreach" and "BT." Every time, we acted like we were booting up a computer, phone, or tablet and asked them what exactly we should be seeing. Then we'd challenge them on it, asking "What should appear on the screen?" Each time, they’d accuse us of wasting their time, and we'd shoot back with "not more than you're wasting ours," which usually ended up with them shouting insults down the line.

Got a call from an Indian lady who said she was calling from VirginMedia, but it was clearly a scam. She told my mum to google “my 1pp address location” and claimed it showed her IP was being hacked. Thing is, the top result is always some fake IP address, so it’s totally bogus. Mum caught on and ended the call. This wasn’t the first time either, we had a similar call just the day before. Definitely dodgy!

Got a call from an Indian lady saying she was from VirginMedia, talking to my mum. She told her to google "my 1pp address location" and said the top result was the same for everyone, some bogus IP address. Then she started saying my mum was being hacked or scammed or something. In reality, the caller was the one being dodgy. Mum ended the call pretty quickly. This was actually the second time in just two days she'd got a call like this.

I told her it doesn't matter as I'm on Virgin Media, then she started going off at me. I just snapped and said "buzz off and stop calling, you old codger!" Blocked the number straight away. These sorts of calls are well dodgy.

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent, sounded like she was working in a call centre. Claimed to be from BT Openreach, saying my internet was at risk. I told her it didn’t matter since I’m just on Virgin Media. She started getting really angry, so I told her straight up to “hang up and stop bothering me, you old codger!” I’ve blocked the number now. These scammers are just the worst.

Got a call from an unknown number, but I couldn't make out who it was. The voice sounded like they were saying something about treatment, but the person definitely wasn’t speaking English - no clue what language it was though. They rambled nonsense for a while, then just hung up. Marked it as unknown, obviously.

This lady rang up saying she was from Openreach and that there was an issue with my Internet. I let her go on for a bit, trying to convince me to let her get into my computer, but I eventually told her I wasn’t daft and knew it was a con. She warned me that my Internet would be cut off in an hour since I wouldn’t let her connect. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see if that actually happens 😏
