5 yearsWhen I picked up the phone, a recorded voice bombarded me with questions regarding Australian immigration, urging me to press 1 if I had affirmative answers. I complied, and then the line connected to a woman who had a rather dubious accent, reminiscent of something you'd hear from Eastern Europe or perhaps Africa, and it felt as though she was using a voice modulation tool. She proceeded to quiz me on my motivations for wanting to relocate to Australia, among other inquiries. It didn’t sit right with me; I noticed that the call was coming from the UK, marked by the +44 code, while she insisted she was calling from Australia. When I mentioned my intent to move there, she promptly informed me of certain "legal fees" related to the process and wanted to verify whether my card could handle such an international transaction. To my disbelief, she requested the first six digits of my card. I made it clear that I had successfully completed international transactions in various countries, including Australia, the USA, the UK, Germany, and so forth. I didn't want her to validate anything for me, nor would I ever disclose my card details to her. Realising her scam was failing to catch any traction, she quickly hung up when she understood that I wasn't going to fall for her ruse.
