Somebody called me claiming to be from the "Capital Bureau". It sounded like they were pretending to be the Citizens Advice Bureau, which worried me a lot. They said I owed money, but I don’t. When I asked where they got my number from, they just said it was because I supposedly owe debts. I told them what they were doing was illegal and that they must be very dishonest to have got my details like that. They just kept denying everything.

Some bloke said he was ringing from the Credit Investigation Bureau, pulling info from the Government's Debt Solution Forum or summat. Martin’s more likely to be the name of the mouse runnin’ around my garden than this being real. They claimed there’s some debt linked to my phone number - absolute rubbish!

This week, I’ve received two calls from them - I answered the second one. They said I’d been picked for some kind of government plan to help wipe out my debts. What was strange is they not only had my phone number but also my full name (with the wrong title) and even the first line of an old address I lived at nearly a decade ago. I got suspicious and asked if they were legit, but then they just ended the call. The number showed as coming from Newcastle, Northern Ireland. I’ve blocked it now and made a report.

Got a call from the same Indian guy but different numbers each time. He asked if I was Mr Tony, and when I asked his name, he said Michael, with a really thick Indian accent. Claimed to be from the debt info department and was trying to push a debt consolidation loan. Didn’t take too kindly to me chuckling and telling him to shove off. Bet they’ll ring again from another bogus number soon enough.

My 96-year-old Dad got calls to his landline, which is ex-directory and registered with the phone preference service, so he really shouldn't be getting any sales calls. They claimed he owed money.
