Lately, we've had loads of phone calls from unknown numbers, and this was one of them. Whenever a number looks unfamiliar, we put the answerphone on. Of course, no one ever leaves a message. But since the answerphone picks up, they still get hit with a connection charge. We never bother calling them back because it might just redirect to an expensive premium line. A guy rang up saying he was with BT and asked about my internet speed. He talked really fast and had a funny accent, making it hard for us to catch what he was saying. When I said our speed was 25 mbps, he wasn’t happy and insisted we switch on our computer so he could check it himself. We told him we were tied up and couldn’t do that, then he started getting a bit pushy and wanted to know what we were up to. Seriously, don’t ever let anyone on the phone access your computer if you weren’t expecting their call!

Loads of folks keep ringing me up about dodgy internet speeds or saying there's some malware detected on my computer. It's all a load of nonsense if you ask me. I usually just humour them, pretending my PC's crawling and agreeing about the slow internet. One time I managed to keep a caller chatting for a whopping 38 minutes! I kept losing my internet connection, so I kept telling them that I really needed to fix it properly. Eventually, I said I had to go because Emmerdale was just starting on the telly. They mentioned some standard ADSL speeds that I should be getting, but then asked me to log into my router so they could 'fix' the speed. I wasn’t having any of it and ended the call pretty quickly after getting fed up with the whole thing.

Got a call from a guy who sounded Asian, started off saying something about my Amazon Prime account. I told him I don’t have one and never use Amazon. After a few tries of him pushing me to follow what he said, he suddenly changed his story. He claimed someone from Maine in the States had set up a Prime account using my name, had my bank info, and was making orders. He then said I needed an Amazon secure ID code, which he provided, telling me he’d walk me through fixing it on my phone or computer. Really stubborn bloke, had an answer for pretty much everything I threw at him.
