Completely fake call pretending to be BT - the bloke had a weird foreign accent but gave an English name. I played along, acting like a dazed old lady, and they seemed convinced they had me. They kept throwing around internet jargon to confuse me. Luckily, my husband answered and told them straight up, "Stop calling my elderly mum," and they just hung up.

Got a call today (19 June 2017) from someone claiming to be from BT’s tech team about my internet. I didn’t want to chat and told them to stop ringing me. The number they used was 0270 859638. When I tried ringing it back to see if it was legit, the phone said that number doesn't exist.

Beware of these so-called BT Technical Support callers - they’re definitely not from BT! They’re just a load of scammers from India trying to con you out of your money. At around 11:45 in the morning on 19/5/17, I got a call from a woman named Rosie who said she was with BT. She told me someone had been trying to hack into my internet, supposedly between 2am and 4am, and the caller had an Indian accent. I asked for her number, and she gave me 0800 800754. I got suspicious, so I hung up and called 1471 to check the number, and it came up as 0270859638. Honestly, these scammers have zero scruples and are really irritating - best to steer clear of them.

I got a really odd call claiming to be from BT, rambling on about some crazy high internet usage that never happened - in the middle of the night no less. When I just asked ‘Where exactly are you calling from?’ she lost it and got all annoyed. As soon as I interrupted her spiel she started going off on one, proper rage mode. Honestly, if you’ve got a bit of time to kill and don’t mind a laugh, it’s strangely entertaining to listen to. Good way to waste a few minutes, just don’t expect anything useful.

I told her the line was shocking and then asked straight out for her name and number so I could ring back. Guess what? This person with a strong subcontinental accent was really persistent! They said they were from BT, but I told them the line was awful and I'd call back if they gave me their name (there was a long pause) and their number (another pause, probably thinking about it). The number they gave didn't match the one BT 1471 showed me: it was 02032870754, which I've seen reported elsewhere with the same script. Why can’t BT invent some gadget to freeze their calls so they can’t hang up quickly (nice big BT phone bills for them)? I’d just blast them with the whole Wagner Ring cycle - it’d be quite the cultural education!

Got a call earlier from someone saying my internet was being accessed late at night by strangers. They gave a number, 020-328-7054, and said they were from 'BT Technical Services'. I didn't agree to let them check my computer, but when I called back, an Indian guy told me he worked for BT. Bit of a tricky scam, be careful out there!

Got a call earlier today from a woman with an Indian accent saying there was an issue with my internet. I told her my internet was working fine, but she kept insisting and asked me to speak more clearly. I told her again that everything was fine, then she just hung up on me! Something pretty similar happened before with a man who had a similar accent. He wanted me to log onto my computer, but I told him I don’t even have one. He got annoyed and accused me of lying, which was pretty rude. I told him not to call again and ended the call. I’m definitely blocking that number now.

If you’re on the TPS, don't forget to also let the ICO know about any scam calls, and report silent or abandoned calls straight to OFCOM. These spammers ignore posts on here, but they definitely get concerned when complaints go to OFCOM or the ICO - it only takes a couple of minutes to do.
