Today, at around 11am on the 26th of July, I had a call from someone claiming to be an HMRC officer. He said his name was Roger Williams, but had a really strong Indian accent that seemed off. When I asked what he wanted, he got annoyed because I wouldn’t give my name and then started threatening I’ll be deported. Then he just hung up on me! Honestly, couldn't help but laugh at how daft he sounded. What do they even want with me, I wonder?

Just like loads of others have said, I ended up blocking the number, really the only thing you can do. The phone providers are powerless because these guys use some kind of software to spoof their caller ID, making it impossible to track them down. So in the end, all providers do is block that fake number too, which doesn't really solve the problem.

Today at about 3.45pm BST my mum got a dodgy call, but luckily she’s got an answerphone set up so she didn’t fall for it. The caller used some odd legal jargon talking about a "lawsuit" and said to press 1 to chat with an advisor. I used my phone to check the number with 1471 but when I rang back it didn’t connect. Felt really fishy - HMRC never ring directly like that!

Got a call at 16.37 today from 02678951247, saying HMRC is suing me just like all the other calls I've had. It’s a total scam and something needs to be done about these lot. Remember, HMRC never contacts you via phone or text!

This numpty has called me two times in less than an hour. I'd bet my bottom dollar the phone companies and government could trace who this belongs to and lock them up for conning people. It’s absolutely disgraceful to be told you've got some HMRC scam on you when it's completely not true. I wouldn't be surprised if it’s coming from Nigeria again, the source of so many of these scams.
