I became a target of fraud just last week and, as a precaution, had to cancel all my cards. Today, I received a call from a number purporting to be my bank’s fraud team, inquiring about the unfortunate incident from the previous week. They were alarmingly knowledgeable, knowing exactly which cards had been compromised and even asking whether I had received new ones or any refunds. Then, they requested my sort code and account number, claiming it was necessary to establish a new banking identity for my protection. I was taken aback and opted not to disclose any information over the phone. They were quite insistent, attempting to reassure me, but their excuses fell flat. They insisted that I must comply for my own safety online, but I stood firm and hung up. I have a sneaky suspicion it was the very same individual who scammed me just days prior.

The individual on the other end claimed to be from Coventry, but their manner of speaking certainly didn’t give that impression. They inquired about my wiphone, miphone, and biphone-though I suspect they meant iPhone. The accent was quite thick, making it quite tricky to follow. Seemed like they were pushing a product that I had absolutely no interest in. Best to steer clear of such calls! I shudder to think what the next step in their pitch might have been, probably wanting my address and credit card info as well.

I can’t tell you how chuffed I am to have picked up the CallBlocker app! It alerted me to this dodgy number before I even picked up the phone! I’d definitely suggest it to anyone who’s had their fill of nuisance calls. Just google 'action fraud', go to the official 'police.uk' webpage, hit the 'reporting' tab, choose the phishing option, then scroll past the scam emails bit to make your report. You don’t even have to sign up. Apparently more than a million scam calls, texts and emails flood in every single week. It’d be great if everyone took a minute to report these dodgy calls.
