As a manufacturing firm here in the UK with quite a few electricity accounts (six, to be precise), I encountered a rather dodgy phone call the other day. It seemed to be your typical Indian call centre, claiming there was some sort of issue with our meter connection-which is completely untrue on our end. They had the cheek to know our MPAN number, and then they were pressing me for details about when our contract ends, as if they were in charge of the meter's well-being. The caller even inquired about any additional meters we might have! At that point, I realised it was all nonsense and refused to divulge any further information. Unsurprisingly, she abruptly hung up. It’s clearly a scam; we have a broker and solid fixed-term contracts. Date of the incident: 21st September 2023.

BEWARE OF SCAMMERS claiming to be from Total Gas and Power but they're actually Wavecrest Networks Limited. They ring local companies saying there’s an issue with meter readings - they must have loads of personal info because they’re well prepared. They keep ringing over and over, really annoying... Received a call from someone claiming to work for E-ON, insisting that our upcoming bill was going to be heftier than expected. Apparently, they were trying to sort out a billing mix-up due to a meter reading being linked to a different postcode-just one digit off, and it’s thrown our account out of whack. They wanted to confirm our meter number, but I flat out declined to give them any details. At that point, the chap became quite abrasive, mentioning something about the call being recorded. Clearly a scammer-best to brush them off!

Got a call from someone claiming to be Scottish Power, saying we'd been charged too much. They wanted me to confirm my account details and all that. They’d phoned before last year from a similar Coventry number. When I told him I suspected it was a scam, he just ended the call straight away.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with British Gas, saying there was an urgent issue with our electricity meter - but we don’t even use British Gas for our electric! I asked his name and he said Peter Parmanders. I told him we don’t have British Gas and ended the call. He rang back twice more, acting like he was talking to someone else each time! They even gave serial and account numbers which made it sound proper legit. It’s the same scam loads of others have mentioned here. They claimed the meter reader entered the wrong postcode and that we’d be hit with a huge gas bill soon. But once they started asking about our electric account I told them I wasn’t sharing anything more. Watch out for this one!!

This guy called Adam Scott said he was from Total Energy, which is our new supplier so sounds like he’s got some info to seem legit. Like others said they claimed the meter reading was wrong and told me to ignore it. Then he wanted my meter numbers, I told him he’s a scammer and hung up straight away.

Said they was with British Gas Lite. They told me there was a mistake on our bill for more than £6000 and to fix it they just needed some info from a past bill. The caller was really polite and convincing, so I ended up giving them our MPEN number, my name, the full bill amount and our account details, including when our contract ends. It wasn’t until after the call finished that I started feeling something wasn’t right.

Got a call from an Indian bloke claiming to be from Eon, said there was an issue with our recent bill and asked for some private info... then he switched the phone between his hands and acted like he was the boss or something.

I got a call from someone claiming to be British Gas, but they also mentioned EDF. They asked about how I pay my bill and said I’d be getting a big bill sent out tomorrow. Glad I didn’t hand over any bank info.

What an unpleasant experience! This person claimed to be from my electric supplier, asserting that they were somehow in charge of Opus, which is my actual provider. I must say, everything about the conversation felt utterly off. The information being fed to me simply didn’t compute; it was like trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces. It all seemed too dodgy to be true!

Sounds like a scam to me. They said the meter readings came from the wrong meter and postcode, pretending to be British Gas. Asked for both electric and gas details. I got suspicious when they asked about gas since I already send my gas readings, which are pretty low. When I ended the call, they kept ringing back, so I told them to come to the house tomorrow and sort it out in person.

Got a call at work from someone saying they were with British Gas, but they gave a postcode that was completely off. When we asked about it, they switched to a different postcode, which was still incorrect. My mate thought it smelled like a scam and ended the call. Then they ring back three more times until we finally blocked the number.

Said they were calling from British Gas. The bloke was really rude the whole time. He asked for personal info, but when I said I'd get it and ring British Gas myself, he shouted "you're wasting my bloody time" and just cut me off.

Some bloke with an accent rang up saying he was from Opus Energy. He told me our postcode got mixed up and we’d been charged wrong, plus they’d stopped our direct debit. He even asked me to check my latest bill and had our actual supply number. I said no way I’d give him anything and that I’d ring Opus Energy myself to make sure it was legit. He got a bit annoyed and said, “How else would I know your supply number if I wasn’t from Opus?” That’s when I ended the call. DO NOT TRUST THESE LOT, COMPLETE SCAMMERS!

Got a call from a guy named Sam saying he was from our energy provider. He wanted our meter number and said there was an issue with our bill because of a postcode mix-up, asking me to fetch an invoice copy. I told him to ring back later to buy myself some time. Something felt off. I looked up the number and found tons of scam reports linked to it. When he rang back, I confronted him about it and he just ended the call straight away.

Someone rang me saying they were from British Gas Lite and that we’d been wrongly charged due to a mix-up with another company. They wanted me to verify my MPAN number. I asked for an email first so I could check if they were legit, as my bills seem fine. Then they just said alright and ended the call. The woman had quite poor English and it felt like a dodgy scam trying to grab our info. Definitely suspicious.

Some bloke called Jake with a weird accent said he was from NG Power, which we don’t even have. When I asked for a reference number, he rattled off some rubbish one that made no sense. Threatened to cut the power off, I asked a few questions then he just binned the call. Totally a SCAM.

Then they rang again threatening that our power would be disconnected if I didn’t give them the info. Definitely looked dodgy to me.

Got a call from Alex at SSE energy - he was really rude and accused us of lying cause we wouldn’t give him the details so he could check the bill, which was wrongly charged over £1700 on our account. I just ended up hanging up the phone.

Told her she was totally wrong as we’re in a managed building and there’s no account under our business name. Just got a phone call from a bloke with an indian accent claiming to be from Total energy, saying he wanted to verify the meter info on our latest bill. Something felt off, so i looked up the number online and found loads of warnings, then ended the call. I rang Total energy myself and they said they hadn’t been trying to contact me.

Got a call about my gas bill, asking if I’m responsible - which I am. Let him continue for a bit then I asked, “What gas exactly?” He said gas supply to the address. I was like, “Which supply?” Then he repeated it’s the gas to the property. I told him that’s strange since we don’t actually have any gas connection here...
