I chose not to pick up the phone, as I'm on the Telephone Preference Service list. Oddly enough, since registering, I've been inundated with more unsolicited calls and spam messages than ever before.

Although I've blocked this number, I continue to receive calls claiming to be from TalkTalk, threatening to suspend my internet service. This harrowing saga has dragged on for a good couple of years now. In fact, I've already received three calls today alone-one at 9:15, another at 11, and the latest just now at 1:40. It's becoming quite the nuisance!

This seems like one of those well-planned scam outfits using auto-diallers. The system rings numbers randomly but if all their people are busy, the call just drops dead or goes quiet. Once their machine knows someone picked up, they bombard you non-stop unless you manage to block the numbers. The trouble is, they likely have heaps of different phone numbers, so even if you block a few, the nuisance calls keep rolling in. Proper nightmare.

What’s happening here is that the autodialler is calling loads of numbers automatically, and when someone picks up, it connects you to a person in the call centre. Sometimes there’s a big gap because of bad setup or the team being swamped, but if you hang on, eventually someone answers. Just let them know it’s a business number and they usually won’t bother ringing you again.
