I’ve just had a similar experience. A chap was waffling on about slashing my phone bill down to just 12p starting next month. But as soon as I raised an eyebrow and said, “Hold on a second,” the slippery character hung up on me. I’ll definitely be flagging this with BT as well. Oddly enough, it was around 5:30pm when the call came through - and there was no clarification, just some vague blabber about being an account manager.

Seems I've received a dodgy call from a number that's clearly up to no good - 024766385754. They're likely a nuisance trying to lure me into some scheme to cut my phone expenses. Definitely best to steer clear of these types!
