10 yearsI fell for this ruse and soon realised it was all a bit dodgy! I received a cold call from someone named Steve, who made it sound like there was a government initiative now operating in my part of Surrey. He claimed I could get £1000 worth of free alarm equipment for my house. I genuinely thought it was above board until he provided a telephone number-02476555005. That area code didn't ring any bells for me, as my number starts with 01483. It turns out it’s from Coventry and belongs to a burglar alarm firm based in the Midlands. Instead of the promised £1000 worth of gear for just £299 installation, I ended up with an insufferably arrogant salesperson in my home for over an hour, trying to persuade me to fork out £4000! It began with claims of it being all free, then shifted to just £299, and before I knew it, they were demanding £4000! Total nonsense-just a bunch of con artists targeting vulnerable individuals with withheld numbers. As a former college professor, I can hardly believe I let this so-called safety advisor-who was really just a pushy salesman-into my abode.
