8 yearsGot a call from someone telling me I was owed money, so I decided to mess with them and gave a fake birthdate and bank info. A couple of hours later, they rang back saying everything checked out and I’d get another call the next morning at 9. Sure enough, they called and said there was a cheque for £3600 waiting for me. Apparently, a rep was nearby in Norfolk and would call soon, but first, I had to pop down to the Post Office and buy a “one for all” card for £200, which was supposedly a solicitor’s fee. Only after that would they hand over the cheque. That’s when I told them this was a nonsense scam.
