Got a call from a bloke claiming to be from Sky, saying my router wasn’t working right. He asked some simple questions and then passed me to a woman, supposedly his boss. While she was rambling about lights and internet speed, I ran a speed test. I asked her what speed she expected, and she said 45 down (which is way off, I have really fast internet). I told her I was getting a solid 75.8 and to quit wasting my time, plus she was probably a scammer. Unsurprisingly, the call just went dead!

Got a call from this number around 8.15am today. The guy said he was from the Telephone Preference Service, something about blocking calls. I told him no thanks and hung up. Pretty sure he wasn’t calling from the UK, nowhere near Portsmouth like the area code showed.

Just got a ring from this number, said it was international even though it looked like a UK one. I picked up but said nothing and then they just hung up. I've blocked international calls again now - only accepted them before to get security codes from the tax office, which is sorted now, but it did bring in more rubbish calls. I'm signed up to TPS but it does nothing, and there's no need to pay for that rubbish service, so if anyone tries to tell you to renew or pay up, they're scams for sure.

Some bloke called saying he was connected to a phone company. He wanted me to confirm my name, but I didn’t bother and just asked what the call concerned. He couldn’t clearly say which firm he was from and I told him I’d never heard of them. When I asked what he wanted, he went on with a long ramble that didn’t explain anything. I asked again what the call was regarding and then he just ended the call. CLEAR SCAMMER.

Someone rang saying they were from TPS, but called me Mrs followed by my husband’s first name, which was weird. They asked if I was the phone owner and I said yes. Then they wanted to know if I paid by Direct Debit, which I don’t. When I said I pay by cheque, they just hung up straight away. Definitely sounded like a scammer fishing for bank info.

This bloke with a strong accent rings me about 8 each morning. I nicely asked him to quit, but he refused and said he’d keep calling. Received a jarring call on the 8th of January 2021 from someone purporting to be "Patrick", who had a rather thick accent that wasn’t English. He claimed to be affiliated with the TPS Management Service and promised to put an end to the nuisance calls I’ve been receiving. I inquired as to how he identified these as nuisance calls, but he merely kept insisting he'd "stop those calls". After a minute of my persistent questioning, he abruptly disconnected.

A guy with a South Asian accent called me. He already knew my name and where I live. Claimed he was calling from this "Telephone Preference Agency." Said he had the expiry date of my debit card and wanted me to verify it. I said no thanks and told him the Telephone Preference Service costs nothing, then I ended the call.

I received a call from this number regarding a fraudulent Amazon order, suggesting I press 1 for more information. We hung up promptly. It seems our phone number is now being misused by them to reach out to others in our vicinity, urging them to press 1 as well. Consequently, we're inundated with irate calls from neighbours demanding we cease and desist from phoning them. The only thing we did was respond to that number! Phoned my very old aunt a few times in the morning, on the fourth try my husband got there and answered. The bloke claimed he was from the Telephone Preference Service, but my husband was sure he was just a scammer. The man got really rude and insisted on getting my aunt’s address, even said he’d keep ringing just to be spiteful. Proper nasty behaviour. Later on we started getting silent calls too. We know the Telephone Preference Service can’t do much about them, so now we’re trying out BT’s call blocker.

Gets these calls all the time, sometimes once a week but other times a couple of times in a day. This morning someone picked up but had a strong accent and loads of background noise, hard to make out what they were saying. They mentioned my last name? Then just hung up without saying much. Definitely a scam, those silent calls are pretty annoying, and if someone vulnerable answered, it might be risky. Best thing is to just ignore them, especially when you see 0239 on the caller ID - you know right away it’s dodgy!

Got a silent call around 1pm on 22nd December 2020.

Rang in just before 8 in the morning. I’ve stopped picking up calls on my landline unless the caller bothers to leave a message. Unsurprisingly, they didn’t. Out of curiosity, I looked the number up on 1471. If someone’s calling for a legitimate reason, they’ll usually drop a message. It’s really quite straightforward, isn’t it?

The individual on the line claimed to be representing the Telephone Preference Service. He inquired whether I was the rightful owner of this number and requested I verify my postcode. Then, he proceeded to ask me to confirm the expiration date of one of my bank cards. At that juncture, I decided to hang up.

I received a call bright and early today from someone claiming to be William, representing Virgin Media. He mentioned they’d spotted some dodgy activity from overseas attempting to breach my WiFi. I decided to keep him chatting for a good twelve minutes, and it seemed he eventually cottoned on to the fact that I was toying with him, so he ended the call. He instructed me to fire up my laptop and hit the Windows key alongside the R key, suggesting a box would pop up in the corner of the screen. I feigned compliance with all his directions, and before long, his patience wore thin, prompting him to bail on the call!

TRIED TO STEAL MONEY. They called my elderly dad loads of times and were really aggressive. Someone told me to report it to Action Fraud but it was such a pain to do since you have to sign up and all that. Anyway, we’ve blocked the number and put a warning on social media asking everyone to spread the word. This scam is nasty and quite scary honestly.

I got a call on my landline around 11:45 this morning from 02392691567. I ignored it, and after looking it up here, I'm really happy I didn’t answer. These scammers are so invasive and can really distress those who are more vulnerable. I reckon they dial lots of numbers at random to find people who might be easier to trick. Proper nasty stuff!

This number 02392691567 kept calling me loads of times across a few days. When I asked who it was, the person sounded pretty threatening, even saying they’d come round to my house to talk face to face. Definitely felt a bit menacing.

Be careful with these calls, they claimed someone was messing with my internet. They asked me to install an app on my iPhone. Seems like they’ve gotten smart enough to target Apple devices now, which is quite worrying.

I use Call Guardian which usually blocks strange numbers unless they speak up or drop a voicemail. This one never said a word though, it just cut off the call, so I’m guessing it’s some kind of auto-dialler. It rang my phone 6 times yesterday and once again today. It might be risky, but since it never actually gets through to me, it just ends up being annoying spam.

I've posted here quite a few times but it doesn't seem to change anything apart from warning folks about the scams. What's the use if no one actually listens? Why aren't these scammers being hunted down? It can't be that difficult surely.

I've had a few rings from this number on the 20th of September. The first one came in around 8 in the morning. The voice on the other end had a distinctive Indian accent, greeted me with a 'good morning', and then fell silent. The subsequent calls were eerily similar with no follow-up chatter. Just today, on the 10th of December, I got another. The same voice said 'hello' but then it all went quiet again. Quite puzzling, really!

The number was unfamiliar so I didn’t pick up. After a while, the answering machine kicked in but it just played a constant buzzing noise for like ten minutes straight. I couldn’t hang up properly, and had to actually unplug the phone from the BT socket and switch off the power to the base just to get it to stop.
