Definitely a scam. I got a call from a bloke with an accent saying he was from the "energy company". When I asked him to clarify if it was gas or electricity, he hesitated and then just said British Gas, which isn’t even our provider. He never explained why he was calling and seemed clueless about who he was talking to. We aren’t with British Gas and actually use a broker for our supply. Ended the call straight away.

But they kept ringing back, like 11 times in total. On the fifth ring, I finally answered again and told them to stop calling me, and all I got back was "go to hell". Total scam, in my opinion.

Got two calls from this number today, one right after the other within a few minutes. Both times the bloke sounded exactly the same but gave different names. First one said they were from UK Power Networks, the second said Scottish Power, both asking for meter readings. Got a call from a bloke with a strong accent, who kept saying "How are you madam" instead of just saying why he was ringing. After a bit, he said he was with some "meter reading supply" and wanted to get our meter details. When I asked which company he was with, he said "Smarter Energy," which is weird because they’re our supplier and I’ve already checked these calls are fake. So I told him that and ended the call.

I told them I’d verify with my energy company since I wasn’t convinced. That’s when the bloke got rude and started threatening to disconnect my power at 8 in the morning tomorrow. I can’t even begin to think how upsetting this would be for someone more vulnerable.

So, got a ring out of the blue from someone called "Steve" on this number, said he was with my current energy provider and that they needed to swap out my meter due to some dodgy readings. Oddly enough, he actually knew my name (I'm the business owner), plus the right supply address, MPAN and even the meter number - pretty impressive compared to all the scam calls I normally get. But as soon as he asked for my DOB, I cut him off straight away. Watch out for this one!

Told them their details were wrong and they’d need to speak to the person currently responsible for the account. They insisted my number was the only one linked to the account and then said an engineer would be sent to cut off the electricity.
