I keep getting this bunch of calls from phone numbers that differ by just one digit. From what I’ve read in other comments, it sounds like it would've been a scam if I’d picked up. Honestly, there should be laws done about these scam phone lines - or at the very least, the people renting out these numbers should be held accountable if criminals are using them.

Typically, they kick things off with, "Is this [my name]?" To which I reply that they’ve got the wrong number. It’s really helped cut down on the number of scam calls I get. Honestly, I wish I’d thought of this ages ago!

I’ve been battling this awful ‘100 day cough’ bug and stupidly picked up the phone. The caller claimed it was just a ‘lifestyle’ chat and insisted they weren’t trying to sell me anything. Just as I began to say I wasn’t interested, I got hit with a terrible coughing fit that left me gasping and unable to speak! They just ended the call straight away. I really wish there was a way to block these annoying scam calls for good.

I got a ring on my phone from this number earlier. When I asked who was calling, some guy called "Aaron" with an Asian accent said he was ringing from Smart Savings UK. He claimed that me and someone else at home could get £40 knocked off our energy bill. I told him if there really was a discount, my energy company would have informed me directly. I mentioned that cold calling isn’t allowed here in the UK, and just as I was about to cut him off, he ended the call himself.

Some bloke called "Aaron" seemed to know my full name, phone number, and even my address, but he completely messed up the postcode. I went along with it anyway. He was trying to sell me some "supersaver card" thing with £40 credit and said I'd get 15% off every time I shopped. Said it wouldn’t cost a penny except £2 for delivery. I didn’t bother with his nonsense and told him straight up this was a scam and he ought to find proper work. Then he just hung up on me!

I received a call that seemed to have most of my information spot on, with the sole exception of the postcode, which I couldn’t be bothered to rectify. The caller was keen to offer me a so-called supersaver card preloaded with £40, claiming it would also grant me a charming 15% discount at various retailers, banking on my supposed loyalty as a customer (though I haven’t a clue who they think I am). All they wanted was a measly £2.80 for postage - oh, and likely the contents of my bank account once I handed over my personal details. I quickly reminded him that I was well aware this was a scam, and with that, he abruptly ended the call.

Today I got a call where they actually knew my name and part of my address. They then asked for my postcode, but I just refused to give it. After that, they ended the call. I’ve gone ahead and reported them and blocked the number. I made sure not to say 'yes' or 'alright' or anything like that - I just kept quiet the whole time. Don’t ever confirm anything with them, they’re known for recording and chopping up your words to make it seem like you agreed to stuff.

They didn’t identify themselves when they called, so we couldn’t decide whether to pick up or not, and they left no voicemail, which always makes me uneasy.
