5 yearsPlease be careful, don’t get caught out by these scammers. I googled McAfee and clicked the first link - it looked just like the real McAfee site, even had the padlock symbol and everything. I downloaded the antivirus from there, but turns out it was a fake site, a perfect copy of McAfee! Above all, within seconds an error message popped up saying “a McAfee tech will ring you shortly”. My phone soon rang and someone called ‘Jeff’ claimed to be from McAfee. He gave me a tech ID, email and all that, then asked to access my computer to do a diagnostic scan. I let him in, and he showed me a bunch of ‘issues’ and warned my network was at risk. Honestly, he scared me silly! He ‘fixed’ all the ‘problems’ and said I needed extra protection on top of the McAfee LiveSafe I’d apparently just installed. I ended up paying £169.99 via PayPal for some lifetime network and IP protection. I thanked him and we ended the call. Of course, I thought he was a legit McAfee agent since I downloaded from their site. But nope! McAfee never call you. They absolutely do NOT offer lifetime protection, and right now they don’t have any tech support in the UK at all. If you get a call from a Southampton number like that, just don’t answer! This guy actually turned off my security settings and installed an app that let him spy on my computer remotely. Luckily, I’ve now fixed all that and removed the spy software, but the £169.99 is gone for good. The worst bit? Their fake webpage is perfect - it’s impossible to tell it’s fake. My advice: Don’t download from any website you find by searching Google. Just call McAfee directly and ask them to install your protection for you.
