A woman, sounding like she might be American, rang me with a recorded message saying my internet had been hacked and would be disconnected in a day or two. She said if I pressed 1, I’d speak to an engineer and get a free router and a new IP address. They kept sending me this exact message several times. Also, I’ve had loads of similar calls from people who sound Indian but use really English-sounding names. They claim to be from BT or Openreach. I usually tell them they’re scammers and ask to be removed from their list, but I doubt they actually do it!

Just like others have said, I tried 1471 and they came up with different random numbers each time. I run a business in Yorkshire and had a call from Fedex claiming to give me a tracking code that turned out to be fake. There was also another one, but I can’t recall the details now. Honestly, you'd think BT could put a stop to these annoying scams by now. It's really getting on my nerves.
