I’m signed up with the telephone preference service but still get loads of annoying calls. Why does it feel like our courts don’t do anything about this here in the UK? It's so frustrating!

For months now, I've been getting a daily call from this number, even though I don't answer them. Whenever I try to ring back, the line doesn't go through - it seems they don’t take incoming calls. Each time they call, the person asks for "Steve Legge." When I ask who’s calling, they say they’re from some debt collection company. I’ve firmly told them every time that no one named Steve Legge lives here or anywhere I know, and I’ve told them to stop calling me. Yet, they keep ringing without fail. I’ve just put in a complaint about this number with the Information Commissioner's Office at http://www.ico.org.uk/complaints. If you’re also getting these constant calls, I’d suggest you do the same.

Every evening around the same time, this person keeps calling, asking for someone who’s never actually lived here to my knowledge. When I tell them that the person isn’t around, they can be pretty rude. The caller sounds like they’re from abroad but speaks okay English. After I say the person isn’t here, they ring back the next day but with their number hidden. Now I just ignore calls from unknown numbers and hang up straight away.

Got a call on my mobile from a man who spoke Chinese, his English was really bad so I just ended the call.

This bloke said he was from some government dept for fair trading or summat, claiming he had my details about debts. When I told him straight I hadn’t any debts, he started getting proper stroppy and kept calling me a fibber. In the end, he just hung up on me, threatening I’d get some legal papers for not ‘helping’ a government official. Total rubbish, if you ask me.

They ring non stop through the day and when you ask what company they’re from, they change their story all the time. Most times it’s some taxi service or a local finance adviser, but their accent totally gives them away. Honestly, stop calling folks, you lot are just scammers.

This number kept ringing me over a dozen times without answer. When I finally picked up, they claimed the OFT passed them my details because the debt management firm I use got blacklisted for dodgy charges. I’d warn anyone getting calls like this not to believe them - the OFT wouldn’t just hand out personal info for some random cold call, that’s mad. You should tell them to remove your data from their system, be firm about it. I had to argue with them for a while before I got through to someone who promised to wipe my details. They even tried to scare me with talk of court, but it was all just nonsense. Honestly, don’t get caught up in their tricks - it’s just swindlers preying on people already struggling with money.

They tell me there are businesses going after me legally over some unpaid debts I supposedly owe. The thing is, their English is really bad and it sounds a bit dodgy. Someone rang me claiming to be with the Citizens Advice Bureau, telling me I wasn’t keeping up with my credit card payments and that my debts would be collected soon. The bloke was really intimidating. When I asked if he was from a loan company, he started shouting that I was in big trouble and that they were going to take me to court. After I kept pressing for more info, he just slammed the phone down. Be careful with these lot, they’re definitely not on the level.

They keep ringing me on both my mobile and landline non stop. I think it’s because I applied online for a loan and that’s how they got hold of my number. They call all hours and come up with different job titles each time. Just the other day, some bloke called saying he was my 'Local Financial Advisor.' I chuckled and told him he wasn’t local at all - his accent gave him away - and he snapped back aggressively saying ‘Well, I am, alright?’ Tonight, he rang again but this time my daughter answered and he said he was from the 'Citizen's Advice Bureau.' When I took over, he was all nice and told me it was about my finances. When I asked him if he’d just pretended to be from the CAB, he hung up instantly. I’ve got a rape alarm ready and the next time he rings, I’m blasting it down the phone. If that doesn’t stop him, I don't know what will!

This number has called me about 5 times today, each time claiming to be from a different company. One guy I spoke to couldn’t even give me a clear answer when I asked something. Then, just 5 minutes ago, another caller hung up right when I started to ask questions. All of them had accents, like Brazilian or Filipino. It’s obviously the same outfit behind it and a total scam!

This number has called me several times now, claiming to be from the Office of Fair Trading. They tell me there are companies suing me over some sort of unpaid debt I supposedly owe. Their English isn’t very good at all, and when I told them I don’t owe anything, they got annoyed and quickly hung up. I’ve reported the number and signed up for the TPS, but it doesn’t seem to block calls from abroad. I even paid £35 hoping it would stop these annoying calls, but I’m still getting at least one every day. Feels like a total scam to me.
