On the 26th of July, this number rang my home line about 10 times. I picked up four of those calls but didn’t say a word, and there was only silence from their side each time. Then on the 27th, I already got called 5 more times. Honestly, it’s feeling like pure harassment now.

It sounded like someone from an Indian call centre. The person spoke as if they knew my husband’s name and claimed to be from the telephone preference service. When I pointed out the number was the same one from yesterday, they swore only the first three digits matched. They then told me my credit card’s expiry date and said I needed to update it to stay registered with the preference service. They asked for my card’s sort code, claiming it was for ID purposes, which I gave, but refused when they wanted the full account number. I hung up straight away. A few minutes later they rang back but I ignored it. I contacted BT since I’m signed up with the telephone preference service, but they said there’s nothing they can do to block scam calls like this.
