I picked up the phone and a recorded voice claimed to be from TalkTalk, my internet provider. They said my router’s IP address was hacked and needed changing within a day. They assured me it’d be free but might cause a brief internet outage. They asked me to press 1 to chat with the engineer fixing it. When I did, the call just cut off. After that, I rang TalkTalk myself and they told me everything was fine and they never called me. Sounds like a total scam - watch out!

I received a rather dodgy automated call earlier that claimed to be from TalkTalk, my broadband provider, if you can believe that. The message warned me that my router had been compromised along with its IP address and insisted that I must change the IP immediately. It even suggested pressing 1 to have a chat with a 'field engineer' who was apparently sorting this mess out. But, rather suspiciously, the line went completely silent when I followed through. I decided to touch base with TalkTalk afterwards, and surprise, surprise-there's no issue on their end nor any record of that call. Clearly, it's a scam!
