I've encountered a genuine private phone number that’s been exploited by some dodgy scammer’s tech. The call I received was from a con artist using an entirely different number but cleverly cloaked their true identity behind this innocent individual’s number. Understandably, the actual owner is quite distressed and has taken the matter up with British Telecom. They've handed it over to the "Nuisance Call Bureau" to investigate and deal with the situation.

It turns out this phone number genuinely belongs to someone and has been misused by a fraudster's automated system. I received a call from the scammer, but they had the audacity to mask their actual number with this innocent person’s details. The legitimate owner is understandably quite distressed and has reached out to British Telecom, who have subsequently escalated the matter to their "Nuisance Call Unit" for resolution.
