Got a call from someone saying they were checking the telephone preference service, then suddenly they started asking me about my BT direct debit payments. I just told them I wasn’t going to reply and said if it was really BT, they’d have the info already. Hung up and blocked the number straight away.

A bloke with a really muffled voice called saying he was from the telephone preference service, claiming I was signed up with them. He asked if I was getting unwanted calls, which I do get. He then tried to find out if I still pay BT by direct debit each month, followed by a bunch of other questions. I didn’t feel comfortable giving any answers on the spot and told him that if he knew the info, great, if not then no point asking. After that, the line just went dead.
