My elderly neighbour got an answerphone message, which sounded like it was from some official tax department, saying she was being sued. I told her there’s no such body by that name, and no proper agency would warn about court cases through a recorded call. Also, in the UK, you don’t get “served” lawsuits like that, it’s summonses they send out. Once I explained all that, she felt a lot better. Honestly, anyone frightening vulnerable people with these scare tactics deserves a proper public shaming.
