Yesterday, on Friday the 4th of December at around 13:15 GMT, I received a rather alarming phone call while I was abroad. An automated voice in English informed me of a supposedly issued arrest warrant due to tax evasion and urged me to press 1 for further details. For a brief moment, I felt a surge of panic and complied, only to be met with a rather peculiar, high-pitched automated response inviting me to wait for assistance. The whole thing felt rather ridiculous, almost like something out of a cartoon, which led me to realise it was likely a scam. I quickly hung up, relieved to escape the charade.
