Recent submissions I made for tax rebates had me thinking it might indeed be related (after all, HMRC had said they'd contact me by letter or phone if they needed more info). Curiosity got the better of me, and I pressed 1. An individual with an Asian accent then asked how he could assist me. I mentioned the alleged fraud against my name, and when I inquired how I could verify he was truly from HMRC, he responded with a rather dodgy suggestion to "Google it." Just as I was about to search for more information, he asked for my name. I gave it, and suddenly the call dropped!
