It appears that this con is still very much active; a family member of mine was duped into parting with £199, though thankfully, he managed to retrieve it through his card protection. I reckon that PC World must be selling off their customer data to these dodgy folks.

I received a call from someone trying to assist me with my computer issues. I cheekily mentioned that I was with the police and tracking his call. Oddly enough, he abruptly ended the conversation without so much as a farewell. Quite impolite, if you ask me!

I've come to realise this is nothing but a con, and the authorities are already in the loop. If you search for "ActionFraud and Beware of Microsoft Scam Calls", you'll find plenty of useful details. Best thing to do is hang up if they ring. - caller: They try to disguise themselves as Microsoft or a cybersecurity firm.

I recently came across a rather dubious call from this number. A gentleman with a noticeable foreign accent reached out to a member of the general public, claiming there was a problem with her computer that required her immediate attention. He insisted she needed to be at her computer so he could "sort it out." Fortunately, the person on the receiving end was astute enough to sense something was off. The caller was quite evasive and when pressed, he claimed he could ring her back if she had to leave. However, upon mentioning that the police would be informed and his number reported, he swiftly disconnected the call. While this instance exemplifies a common scam technique, it’s worth noting that the methods employed by fraudsters can differ significantly. The phone number was traced back using 1471. I had a phone call from this number earlier. The chap on the other end introduced himself as Shaun and mentioned he could assist me with some pesky computer issues I never even knew I had. I chose to disregard his offer. Since then, he’s tried to reach out again, prompting me to search online to see if others have had a similar experience with this caller. As someone with a bit of knowledge about technology, I strongly advise folks not to take any guidance from strangers ringing up, claiming you have computer troubles. They are merely looking to get into your system for their own ends. If you allow them access, it will surely jeopardise your device’s security, and you could end up spending money either on repairs or dealing with the ramifications of these scammers potentially rifling through your bank details or credit card information. Stay vigilant!
