Happened to me today too. I requested my account number as shown on my bill, and the response was just an awful string of f*** yous and insults. Definitely not a BT rep! I ended up reporting it to ActionFraud.

I got a call from someone saying they were from BT, saying my internet was compromised. They wanted me to switch on my laptop or computer, check some settings, and provide personal details. I ended the call and then contacted BT myself. Turns out they hadn’t called me at all - it was definitely a scam. The BT rep told me a good tip: if someone says they’re from BT in the future, ask them to give your account number. If they can’t, it’s a sure sign it’s a dodgy call. So now, if I get any calls claiming to be from BT, I’ll ask for my account number first before trusting them. Hopefully, this helps others avoid getting caught out by scammers too.

This number has called me 5 times over the last couple of days. Yesterday, they claimed my IP address was being misused, but I ended up hanging up on them three times. Today was different - they warned me my internet would be disconnected in half an hour, so I just told them to go ahead. Then, surprisingly, they told me to “f*** off” and slammed the phone down. I’m used to them being pretty aggressive, but this was shockingly rude.

This number has been ringing me nonstop, but my phone won’t answer the calls. They just keep on trying though. Honestly, you’re wasting your time and money cos you ain’t getting through - sounds like a total scam to me.

This number has called me repeatedly. A man with an Asian accent claimed he was from BT and said there’s an issue with my phone. They’ve called about half a dozen times now. Watch out, it’s definitely a scam.

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent claiming she was from BT’s tech support, saying my internet was at risk. I asked her to prove she worked for BT by checking my account info, but she couldn’t do it. I told her straight away it sounded like a scam, though she insisted it wasn’t. In the end, I just ended the call.
