I got a phone call today saying I'd be sent a cheque for £3000, but only if I give a "Google Play Card" worth £150 to a solicitor who’s meant to arrive at my house within a couple of hours. It’s totally a con. After they get the card details, they’ll ring back to check the code and steal the money from it. No solicitor will ever show up because they already have everything they need. Never buy any cards for these people or tell them the card info. Stay alert!

At about 11:22 in the morning on the 21st of December 2018, I got a call from the number 02086387879 which claimed to be the Inland Revenue and a ‘Jennifer Brown’ supposedly left a voicemail. The message warned if I didn’t ring back or hear from my solicitor, there’d be some legal troubles waiting. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying I owed loads of money to the tax office. Took me a few minutes but then I caught on it was a scam. I only gave him my name and nothing else since he kept pushing me for more details. Eventually, I told him I’d ring HMRC directly. He claimed he was from there and wanted to speak to my lawyer or something. I've since reported the whole thing to HMRC.

Got a couple of missed calls and voicemail messages claiming I owed money to HMRC. They warned me about legal trouble and said bailiffs had been sent round already. Luckily, I wasn't about to panic and took a moment to look into it, even though I knew I didn’t have any debts with them.

I got a call from a robotic voice claiming to be Jennifer Brown from HM Revenue and Customs, telling me I had to call back or face legal trouble. When I dialled the number, a man named Eric Matthews answered and said I owed more than £4000 to HMRC, and there was a warrant for my arrest by 4 pm. He insisted I needed to pay, but when I said I couldn’t, he asked if I had a lawyer and said I’d need one, adding I could apply for bail despite the arrest. I ended the call before it went further and later checked with HMRC who confirmed it was a scam. It was honestly quite scary for a moment.

So I just tried this out and honestly it made me chuckle. They claimed I owed more than £4000 for some texts from like 2012 and 2017. I told the bloke he was definitely not who he claimed to be. Then I said I’d ring the police on him, and he just shrugged and told me to go ahead and do it. Absolutely bonkers!

I got a call from an automated voice warning me about some kind of penalties, which honestly would freak out anyone who might actually owe the tax office. I guess some people might easily be tricked by it. Just watch out though, no telling how much these calls could be charging you a minute, or even worse, they might try to scam your bank info from you.

Got a call on my phone about half an hour ago from someone claiming to be from the Inland Revenue. Big red flag there. That name hasn’t been in use for yonks, it’s HMRC now - Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. So if anyone says they're from the Inland Revenue, they’re almost certainly trying to scam you.

Got a call earlier at 4pm from someone named Jennifer Brown who left a message on my voicemail. When I rang back using 55 from my phone, some guy with an American accent picked up and started asking for my personal info. He even gave me a reference number and told me to mention it if the police get in touch. What a load of rubbish!

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent demanding £4785 urgently, saying my dad needed to send the money and they'd give the bank details once he was actually at the bank. My dad checked with his accountant, who said he’s heard about similar scams popping up lately. Just a heads up, folks - official government letters come through the post to your home and they don't usually sound so pushy or aggressive. Be careful out there!

Today my partner saw she’d missed a call from this number and found a voicemail left by someone named Jennifer Brown claiming to be from the Inland Revenue. The message said to call her back straight away and warned against ignoring it or else legal steps would follow. When she told me about it, I thought it sounded fishy since we’d never got anything in the post from the Inland Revenue about owing money. I decided to Google the number and discovered loads of others had been targeted with similar calls.
