On Saturday I got that exact message and it really made me nervous.

Dodgy! Got loads of calls from this number and also 0208 6387734. Totally not connected with HMRC or any bills you owe. If HMRC need to reach you, they'll send letters through the post like usual. Best to just ignore and block these calls!

Got a scary voicemail from someone saying they were Claire Williams from HMRC. They warned me about "serious legal trouble" if I didn't ring them back. Honestly, I can't see HMRC talking to people like that at all. Felt like a total scam to me.

Got a call from a number I didn't recognise, but they wanted me to phone another one instead. It was some automated voice pretending to be ‘Officer Claire Williams’ from HMRC, warning me to call back or else there’d be legal trouble. Definitely a scary scam trying to frighten people like that.

They always contact you by post first. Even if they use outside agencies to collect debts, you can always check directly with HMRC before paying anything. Got a voicemail from this number telling me to ring Clare Williams back or have my legal rep contact them about HRM Customs and Excise. The message was left on Friday 11th January at 1:30pm.

Today I got a call from this number, and the person said HMRC was going to take legal steps against me for not paying tax. Thing is, I’m on PAYE and supposedly owe nearly £5,000, which sounded dodgy. It was a man with an Asian accent, and I ended up hanging up after a bit because it just didn’t feel legit.
