My wife picked up the call and the caller requested to speak with me. When she asked who was calling, the response was ‘Croydon Health Helpline.’ She introduced herself, curious if she could be of assistance. The caller insisted that it was regarding my upcoming procedure and that she absolutely HAD to speak with me. My wife repeated her request for clarification. In a rather commanding manner, the caller asserted that it was crucial to speak to me directly. I eventually took over the call, and the caller asked for my confirmation of identity. She then, under the guise of security, requested my date of birth. I probed her about how she could verify her own identity, to which she insisted she was from the Croydon Health Helpline. Her tone shifted to one of increasing severity as she pressed me again for my date of birth. In response, I raised my voice and challenged her on how she could establish her identity. At this point, she became quite flustered, irritated, and even shouted something about contacting me through another means before abruptly hanging up. ANYONE CAN CLAIM TO BE ‘CROYDON HEALTH HELPLINE’!

When I ring back that number, it just goes to voicemail which plays a message saying, "You were contacted by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. No action is needed from you. Thanks, goodbye." The calls come through to a supported living place for adults with learning disabilities, and they are asking for one specific resident. They’ve also tried the client’s mum. Apparently, the client has an appointment, but we haven’t had any letter or paperwork about it. It all feels a bit off, and my gut tells me it might be a scam.

My wife took the call, and the person on the other end asked to speak with me. When she inquired who was calling, they claimed to be from the ‘Croydon Health Helpline’. She introduced herself and asked if there was anything she could assist with. The caller insisted it was concerning my surgery but that they MUST speak directly to me. My wife pressed for clarification again. In an overbearing manner, the caller STATED that it was absolutely necessary to talk to me. I took over the conversation, and the caller asked me to verify my identity. Following that, “for security reasons”, she required my date of birth. I asked the caller how she intended to verify her trustworthiness. She repeated that she was from the Croydon Health Helpline. Her tone turned increasingly authoritative as she once again demanded my date of birth. I responded more firmly this time, reiterating my request for proof of her identity. This seemed to frustrate her considerably; she became visibly upset and muttered something about finding another way to reach me before hanging up. ANYONE CAN CLAIM TO BE ‘CROYDON HEALTH HELPLINE’!
