Hey, so I got this letter from a debt firm called Wescot, saying they're chasing money for PayPal. I never gave them any info though. I’m behind on payments and got a call asking me to confirm my email. I told them, and they were aware of how much I owe and that I’d deposited that sum into my account, but it’ll take about a week to clear. Then the person asked for my bank card info to pay right away, which I declined. Could be genuine, but I’m not risking it. Honestly, I’m quite let down since PayPal is meant to keep us safe, yet if this is a scam, they already have our details. It really makes me trust PayPal a lot less now, not a good look at all.

My work phone keeps getting these automated voicemails from this number, but I only manage to catch bits of it, usually just the phone number, so I’ve never bothered to return the call. After receiving nearly ten of these messages over the past week and a half, I decided to look up the number online. Loads of people say it’s linked to PayPal, but most warn it’s fake. I do have a PayPal account, but I barely use it - maybe twice in the last decade - and never with my work number. In fact, my PayPal account is tied to a different country, and they only have an old, inactive international mobile number for me. So, this call definitely isn’t legit. Honestly, don’t trust anyone who says otherwise about this number, it’s best not to ring back or interact with it at all. Just block it and move on.

I actually rang up PayPal myself, gave them all the info including the number, and they checked my account. They assured me everything’s fine and said they wouldn’t be calling me like that. If this number rings you, I’d just let it go to voicemail. Then just log into your Paypal and get in touch with them straight away to sort out any negative balance. I’m dealing with the same issue here. They ring me about 3 or 4 times daily. Sometimes it’s an automated voice, other times someone calls from what looks like a mobile and leaves a message. I’ve got CallBlocker set up and it catches most calls, but I still get alerts every time they try. I’ve checked with Paypal through their app and my account’s totally fine. got proper pissed when i said i wanted £50 for my time, these lot called me before so i told him he had to pay up if he wanted me to answer any questions. he goes "you dont get it", and i said "i do, but i’m charging £50 before i even start". cheeky bugger just hung up on me. well, if youre gonna mess about, i’ll play back, cost them a few quid on calls lol

I've been getting calls nonstop from this number too. My phone's CM security flagged it as HARASSMENT, so I'm pretty sure it's not a legit caller.

Got a call earlier saying it was PayPal. Told them I'd get back to them and then checked PayPal's official site - they had no idea about any call. Seems like a total scam to me! Also kinda suspicious about people here saying it's legit, wonder if they're involved too.

I’ve had a call from this number as well, and after getting in touch with PayPal, they’ve assured me that this isn’t one of their official contacts. They wouldn’t ask for personal details over the phone and typically reach out via email first. Just a heads-up for everyone!

Anyone else having calls that just go straight to voicemail? It’s weird because the number isn’t even appearing on my call list, so blocking isn’t an option. I reached out to PayPal about it, and they admitted it’s a bit odd and said they’d look into it. Seems like plenty of others have experienced the same thing, so I guess they’re well aware already. I’m definitely not the only one who’s reported this to them.

I've had this number ring me 25 times now, always leaving voicemails. When I finally picked up today, Tuesday 29th March, a bloke asked for a Mr Renwick - not me at all, and my number’s meant to be unlisted. He kept insisting I pass on a message to this person, but I’ve no idea who he is! Proper annoying, wouldn’t take no for an answer. What a pain in the neck!

I’m deaf and proper annoyed. You ought to report this to the NFIB Phishing team, which is part of the City of London police, not the Met. Just look up Action Fraud to find them.

I got a call from someone claiming to be PayPal, telling me to ring them back. I didn't bother since when I checked my bank app, my last two payments to PayPal showed up as direct debits, scheduled monthly and yearly. I’ve cancelled them both because I can’t understand why PayPal would set one-off payments as recurring direct debits. Feels dodgy to me!
