From my own experience dealing with these awful scammers, the best advice I can give is if you've just handed over the first £70 to get things going, phone your bank and cancel that card straight away. Also, make sure you tell your bank to flag your account for suspicious activity. That’s the only way to stop them from sneaking out the £770 they usually try to charge you next. It really winds them up, but nothing gets me more angry than these awful con artists.

I reached out to my local council and now Essex Trading Standards are looking into it and might take legal action. I'd recommend you get in touch with them too. We're not the only ones dealing with this. The bigger voice we have, the stronger our chances of success.

If it were me, I’d try to get the money back through your bank or credit card provider. For anyone who's recently put down a deposit with this lot, I’d seriously recommend cancelling your card right away and getting a new one issued. Otherwise, they could end up taking money from your account without you realising it.

I had the exact same experience. I challenged the charge with Amex and sent the paperwork to Clements agency with my "electronic" signature - which I never actually agreed to. They've been leaving themselves positive reviews on Trustpilot, and when I posted a bad one, they blocked it and even gave me a negative comment on Google! Honestly, I’d recommend everyone head over to Trustpilot and share their thoughts, they really need to be called out!

Hey there, we've been dealing with something similar from Clements agency. We never agreed to anything but they took £700 from our bank, which I think was completely dodgy. Has anyone considered reaching out to the Rip Off Britain show to bring these scammers to light? Loads of small businesses have been ripped off by Clements Agency Group. These fraudsters really deserve a long jail sentence for all the harm they’ve caused. I’m a small/new business owner and got caught up in this too. They kept ringing saying they could lower my business rates, asking for £70 upfront as a kind of deposit, promising to refund if they couldn’t do it. Then, after about a week, they took £770 more from my account without warning. Initially, a bloke named Paul spoke to me, but when I tried ringing back, they said Paul wasn’t available and I had to speak to Stella. Stella was really rude, acting like they’re proper experts at frightening you with all sorts of penalties and dodgy contract talk. When I said I didn’t want anything done and asked for my money back, Stella just kept going on about how I was tied into a contract and couldn’t have a refund. I’ve since contacted the VAO to explain everything and am planning to report them to my bank, the police, and fraud squad. Such a nightmare!

Watch out for Clements Agency Group - they go after new business owners, promising to reduce your business rates which sounds pretty good at first. But seriously, don’t fall for it! We never agreed to any contract or gave permission, yet they went ahead and took money from us without our okay!

You might want to contact your bank to challenge the charges and ask for a chargeback. When our bank initially denied our refund, we didn’t give up. We went back to them, showing evidence that we hadn’t given permission or signed anything related to the transaction.

Watch out for Clements Agency Group, they claim they can lower your business rates but they’re just crooks (used to be called Hammer Properties). Don’t give these lot a single penny! If you've got worries about your rates, just get in touch with the Valuation Office directly.
