They were convinced it was a legitimate follow-up regarding his problems. He ended up giving them his mobile number, and they’ve been bombarding him with calls ever since! Seems like a fresh scam disguised as BT. I can’t say for certain what their plan was, as the call didn’t go any further, but I’ve certainly warned my friend to just ignore any future attempts.
