I’m determined to one day figure out exactly who’s behind this nonsense; out of all the scammy, annoying people constantly ringing us up, “Benefits UK” keeps cropping up as the absolute worst. Make sure you report them, no matter what number they’re using. The “Which” website seems like the best place to do that - I’m not even sure if the ICO is the right authority for complaints.

Got a call from someone wanting to talk to a person who isn’t here. I hung up, but the line stayed open for like four hours before I noticed it. Sick and tired of these idiots!

Got a call from a guy with a strong Indian accent. He said he just needed to ask me three quick questions and wouldn’t trouble me after that (have to admit, I found it funny he said "bother"). First thing he asked was if I usually read a morning paper, then he wanted to know my age. I didn’t answer and just ended the call. Now he’s been calling nearly every single day.

Benefits UK is totally different from the DWP, contrary to what someone mentioned before. They’ll ring you up asking stuff like your age or what brand your washing machine is, then sell your details to companies. After that, you get bombarded with calls about TV insurance, washing machine cover and stuff like that. They have zero connection to any government benefits or financial support - they’re just annoying telemarketers getting paid peanuts to hassle folks.

Similar to what others have said, I got a call where the person asked for my daughter but then kept chatting to me, claiming to be from Benefits UK. When I asked for more details, he admitted he worked for the DWP, but wouldn’t say which department or where he was based. I know these are scams, but people who aren’t so aware - like older folks or those with dementia - could easily fall victim. These calls really need to be stopped by Ofcom or providers like BT, Virgin, or Sky.
