I think it’s one of those automated calls checking if your number is actually active. Sounds like a bot that just dials random numbers to see which ones are answered. Once it confirms somebody picks up, they keep your number to either try and scam you or pass it along to telemarketers.

Got a call from some woman saying the RTA called about an accident I supposedly had. I was super suspicious, so I fired back with questions - like, what’s RTA exactly? Which organisation do you represent? When and where did this accident happen? And how on earth did you get my mobile number? Only a handful of people have it! The lady sounded more and more nervous as I kept asking, and in the end, she just hung up, clearly caught out.
