Someone said they were from my 'Internet Provider', but I just ended the call straight away.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from BT Openreach and claimed I was using my broadband as public, not private. He then wanted to log into my computer to 'fix the settings'. I knew straight away it was a dodgy call when he asked if I was sitting at my computer then and there. Definitely a scam in my opinion.

Got a call from this number claiming to check my broadband connection. I told them I don’t take unsolicited calls and asked for their contact to ring back. They gave me 0800 800 5127. Later, I used 1471 to see the number that called me and found it’s the same one I’m investigating here. Definitely seems like a scam. I also searched the 0800 number and it looks suspicious as well.

Yesterday morning around 9am, which I know is a common time for scams, I got a call that seemed really convincing. The bloke on the line had a soft Scandinavian accent, and his mate who called later sounded a bit Eastern European, or so I thought. Through the second call, this other guy managed to get £100 off me, saying it was for some kind of 'lifetime security service'. Luckily, I caught on it was dodgy pretty quick and rang my bank straight away. They managed to get the money back for me, but it was definitely a close call and feels pretty risky.

When I probed further for his work email, he seemed a bit flummoxed, not quite grasping my request. He insisted he was phoning from Microsoft’s main office yet couldn’t furnish me with a contact number, instead suggesting I look it up online. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

I calmly inquired how he could possibly peddle such nonsense day after day, and then, rather politely, I informed him that I was going to hang up. I ignored the call at first, then decided to ring back after seeing just a handful of searches and no reviews here. When someone answered, they said, "thanks for ringing meh," which sounded a bit odd. They kept pushing me to give my name so they could verify if they had the right person, even though I asked what the company actually did. I wanted to know that before sharing any details, but they wouldn’t back down and eventually just cut me off with, "have a great day." A bit later I called again and found out they were trying to sell life insurance.
